Tisas
The cheapest forged-steel Government 1911 in .45 ACP that runs reliably, 5" barrel, 7+1, full mil-spec aftermarket fit
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Tisas 1911 Government is the rock-bottom entry into a forged-steel .45 ACP 1911, and unlike most pistols at its price it actually runs. Imported by SDS Imports and built in Turkey, it pairs a 4140 hammer-forged steel slide and frame with a 5-inch barrel and traditional Government-size geometry. At a street price around $449, and dipping toward $340 on sale, it undercuts the Springfield Mil-Spec by several hundred dollars while keeping the all-steel construction that polymer .45s in the same bracket abandon. American Rifleman's testing of the Tisas 1911 platform logged only two break-in failures to feed across a 166-round session, with the reviewer calling it tremendous value against military-surplus alternatives that run north of $2,500.
This is a faithful Government 1911: single-action trigger, spur hammer, GI-style grip safety and thumb safety, and the Browning tilting-barrel short-recoil action. The Dark Grey variant wears an H-210 Cerakote finish over walnut grips, with GI front and rear sights and a titanium firing pin. Tisas builds it to standard 1911 dimensions, so it accepts standard .45 ACP single-stack magazines and the deepest aftermarket in the handgun world. Frame-to-slide fit on these guns is tight for a USGI-pattern pistol, with minimal play, and the fit and finish carry no visible tool marks at this price point.
The practical case for the Tisas is straightforward. If you want to learn the 1911 manual of arms, build a custom gun over time, or simply own a steel .45 without spending Colt or Springfield money, this is the floor. Every standard 1911 part fits: Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick triggers, EGW grip safeties, Novak sight cuts, and 8-round magazines from Wilson, CMC, and Tripp. The GI sights and the heavier mil-spec trigger are the obvious first upgrade targets, but the underlying forged steel platform is sound and responds to the same gunsmithing as any other Government 1911. For the price of a budget polymer striker gun, the Tisas delivers the steel-frame 1911 shooting experience.
