Bench Rest 2-Die Set (.308 Winchester)

The Forster Bench Rest set is where precision reloading starts paying off, and its seating die is the reason. Instead of dropping a bullet into a case held only at the neck, a caliber-specific sliding die chamber holds the bullet, the case, and the seating stem in alignment while the bullet is seated, supporting the entire outside diameter of the sized case rather than just the bullet and case neck. A concentric bullet channel only slightly larger than bullet diameter keeps the projectile square as it enters. The design is patented and it is non-crimping by intent, because a crimp and a straight bullet are competing goals. The sizing die contributes too: Forster machines it with one-piece reamers to achieve concentricity between all machined diameters, and it uses a high-mounted E-Z Out expander ball on a butyl rubber Co-Ax washer, so the expander self-corrects for misalignment and does its work at the bottom of the stroke where the press has the most leverage. Forster publishes no runout number, and this entry does not invent one; what it sells is a mechanism, and the mechanism is sound.
