The Real Avid Carbon Boss AR-15 addresses the most tedious part of AR-15 maintenance: scraping baked-on carbon from the bolt carrier group. Brushes and solvents handle loose fouling, but the carbon deposits that accumulate on the bolt face, inside the cam pin hole, around the carrier key, and in the firing pin channel often need mechanical removal. This tool provides 13 precision-cut scraper surfaces as part of a 16-in-1 AR-15 cleaning tool.
The bolt face scraper fits inside the recessed bolt face and scrapes the carbon ring that forms around the firing pin hole. The cam pin hole scraper is sized to clean the channel without gouging the bolt body. The carrier key scraper reaches into the gas key cavity where carbon from the gas tube accumulates. The firing pin channel scraper clears the narrow bore that the firing pin rides in, where buildup can cause light primer strikes. The bolt tail and carrier interior scrapers handle the remaining contact surfaces. Each profile is a snug fit to its target surface, which means effective scraping on the first pass rather than repeated ineffective poking with a generic pick.
The tool combines non-hardened stainless scraper surfaces with a cotter-pin puller, pin punch, detailing brushes, and a rotating phosphor-bronze/nylon brush. For shooters running suppressed ARs or high round counts, the Carbon Boss can speed up BCG cleanup without replacing solvents and bore brushes; it complements them by handling the mechanical removal step that chemicals alone cannot accomplish.
