Overview

ALG Defense is Geissele Automatics' sister company, which means the ACT comes from the same factory and ownership that produces SSA and SSA-E triggers. The difference is philosophy: instead of redesigning the fire control group, ALG takes mil-spec 8620 alloy steel castings and refines the surfaces. The trigger gets nickel boron plating, the hammer and disconnector get nickel teflon, and both coatings reduce friction enough to transform the pull character without altering sear geometry.

The result is a 6 to 6.5-pound single-stage pull that feels nothing like the gritty, stagey mess that ships in most factory lowers. The break is sharper and the reset is more distinct, but the pull weight stays above the M4/M16 minimum specification of 5.5 pounds. Sear engagement is unchanged from mil-spec, so reliability is identical to a standard fire control group. The trigger and hammer pins are 4140 chrome-moly steel, centerless ground to 0.001" over standard for a tighter fit in the receiver. The disconnector is 1070 high-carbon steel.

ALG includes both a full-power hammer spring and their purple reduced-power spring. The reduced-power spring lightens the pull slightly and makes the trigger feel even cleaner, though it can cause light primer strikes with hard-primered mil-spec ammunition. Most shooters run the full-power spring and forget about it. At roughly a third the cost of a Geissele SSA, the ACT is the most-recommended first trigger upgrade in the AR community for a reason.

Key Features

  • 8620 alloy steel trigger and hammer (mil-spec castings)
  • Nickel boron plated trigger, nickel teflon hammer and disconnector
  • 4140 chrome-moly trigger/hammer pins, centerless ground
  • 1070 high-carbon steel disconnector
  • Includes full-power and reduced-power (purple) hammer springs
  • Unchanged sear geometry preserves mil-spec reliability
  • 6-6.5 lb pull weight, above M4/M16 5.5 lb minimum

Pros

  • +Geissele-family quality at a third the price
  • +Dramatically smoother than stock mil-spec triggers
  • +Drop-in compatible with all standard lowers
  • +Two hammer springs included for tuning
  • +Unchanged sear geometry means proven reliability
