Lightest Rifle Weapon Lights: Weight-First Rankings

Installed weight is the battery, the tailcap or integrated control, and the mount that attaches the light to the handguard. That is the mass your support hand actually swings, and it is the only number that lets you compare an integrated clamp light against a Scout-pattern body that arrives as three separate parts.

Where a manufacturer sells the light without a mount, the baseline adds the Arisaka Inline Scout Mount at a published 0.6 oz. That mount is the reference because it is one of the lightest M-LOK-to-Scout interfaces in production, so it represents the best case for the brands that leave the mount to you. Swapping to a heavier ring or rail-section mount only moves those totals up.

Remote pressure pads, cable retainers, and switch mounts are excluded throughout, because no manufacturer in this ranking publishes a system weight that includes them. Adding a pad and its retainers is a real cost in ounces, and it is a cost you pay on top of every figure below rather than one that reorders them.

One ambiguity is left visible rather than resolved. SureFire lists both the M340C and the M340DFT-PRO with battery and ships each with a Low-Profile Mount, but does not state whether the mount is inside the published weight. Those two figures are therefore best cases, and if the mount is excluded, both lights sit slightly heavier than the ranking shows.

Once weight sets the shortlist, candela decides how far the light is useful and lumens decide how much of the room fills in. The hard number to know is that no light here delivers 95,000 candela below 4.8 oz installed: the Modlite OKW V2 18350 at $309 is the lightest way to reach it, and the SureFire M340DFT-PRO matches that candela at 5.11 oz.

The Streamlight TLR RM 1 HL-X is the value inflection in this category. At 3.12 oz it is within 0.02 oz of the lightest option here, and it still produces 1,000 lumens and 22,000 candela on the SL-B9 battery, which is more than double the Arisaka's lumens and about a fifth more candela. The cost is runtime: 30 minutes on high with the rechargeable cell, against 1.5 hours from the INFORCE WML Gen 3 at $113.97 and two hours from the INFORCE WMLx Gen 3.

At the low-candela end, the SureFire M340C at 7,600 candela is the outlier: it is the third-lightest light here at 3.65 oz but produces the least concentrated beam in the ranking. It earns its place on the hybrid beam and the switching ecosystem rather than on throw. A remote pressure pad is the single easiest way to undo a weight-first light choice, and none of the manufacturers here publish a system weight that includes one. That is why the rankings exclude pads across the board and why three of these lights are worth a second look if you want to skip the cable entirely.

The INFORCE WML Gen 3 and WMLx Gen 3 both put a momentary, constant, and strobe control on the rear of the body, so the published 3.7 oz and 4.9 oz assemblies are complete as sold. The Streamlight TLR RM 1 HL-X keeps an independent push-button on the light itself, so the remote cable is optional rather than the only way to run it. The trade is placement: a rear thumb control lives where the light lives, while a pad goes wherever your support hand already is.

The 2.01 oz spread between the Arisaka 300 Series and the SureFire M340DFT-PRO sits at the front of the handguard, which is the worst place on the rifle to add mass. Weight out there works through a longer lever than weight at the receiver, so it slows transitions and drags the muzzle low on movement more than the same ounces added behind your firing hand.

Two ounces is also the same order of savings as a full handguard swap, which is why the light is worth deciding before the rail.
