What Is the CZ Duty Pistol?
The CZ Duty is CZ's first modular, chassis-based striker-fired 9mm pistol, launched October 6, 2026 at a list price of $729 for every model. A serialized steel chassis holds all of the fire control parts, so the polymer grip is a swappable module rather than the serialized frame. CZ built it for military and law enforcement contracts first and is selling the same pistol to U.S. civilians.
The Duty sits above the frame-based P-10 series rather than replacing it. Guns.com reports roughly five years of development, with input from Czech special forces users, and CZ's ergonomics team shaped the grip with the same DiFEND human-factors process it used on the P-10. It follows the P-10 C's adoption as the German service pistol, covered in our Bundeswehr CZ P13 article.

CZ Duty Models: Full vs Compact Specs
The four launch models share a 4-inch barrel and a 7.4-inch overall length; the only dimensional difference is grip height. The Full holds 17+1 rounds flush and 19 with CZ's +2 basepad. The Compact holds 15+1 flush and takes the 17-round magazine with a sleeved basepad that covers the exposed tube. MS models add an ambidextrous manual safety at the same price, and 10-round versions ship for restricted states.
The Compact is not a subcompact. It is 0.32 inches shorter in height and, in Guns.com's weights, 0.3 oz lighter than the Full, so the choice comes down to how much grip you want to conceal. Neither launch model has a slide or barrel shorter than 4 inches.

Modular Chassis and Grip Modules
The Duty's serialized chassis is the legal firearm, and CZ designed it to accept different grip modules, barrel lengths, and magazine capacities. CZ offers three grip module sizes, S, M, and L, each with a different palm swell and trigger reach, instead of interchangeable backstraps. The modules carry 360-degree texture, a pronounced magazine cutout, and molded support-hand indexing pads above the trigger guard.
It field strips without tools and without pulling the trigger, and the controls are fully ambidextrous out of the box: slide release, magazine release, and the manual safety on MS models. The frame is fiberglass-reinforced polymer, the slide carries CZ's patented in-house nitride finish, and the cold hammer-forged barrel is covered by CZ's transferable lifetime barrel warranty.

CZ Duty Optics: Which Red Dots Fit?
The CZ Duty mounts Trijicon RMR, Shield RMSc, Holosun K, and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint red dots directly to the slide with the pin set included in the box, no adapter plate required. Aimpoint ACRO, Colt Optics, and Holosun HE509T footprints need an aftermarket adapter plate. Direct mounting keeps the dot as low as CZ can put it, and the factory three-dot sights (tritium or luminescent) are cut to co-witness in the lower third of the window.
For an open-emitter carry dot, the RMR and RMSc footprints cover most of the market; our best pistol red dots guide ranks them. Duty-use buyers who want a sealed emitter can run a Holosun K-footprint closed optic direct, or plate an ACRO; see the best enclosed-emitter pistol red dots for the full field. CZ zeroes every Duty's sights at 25 yards at the factory; set your dot with our pistol red dot zeroing guide.

Durability, Safety, and Trigger
CZ guarantees a 50,000-round service life with standard ammunition, or 25,000 rounds of German DM51 overpressure ammunition loaded about 30% above standard pressure, including a 10,000-round period with no parts changes. The design was tested to NATO STANAG AC/225 methodology, covering drop, water, and debris exposure, and CZ measures more than 200 dimensions on each slide.
Safety is layered: a three-stage drop safety blocks the firing pin, a trigger safety blocks trigger movement, an out-of-battery safety prevents firing when the slide is not closed, and MS models add the ambidextrous thumb safety. Guns.com measured a 5.1 lb average pull across 10 pulls with a defined wall and short reset. At the July launch event, TFB TV ran one Duty through a 1,000-round case of Federal American Eagle 115-grain FMJ without a cooldown or a malfunction.

CZ Duty vs P-10 C, SIG P320, and Springfield Echelon
Buy the CZ Duty over the $449 CZ P-10 C if you want a serialized chassis, swappable grip modules, and plate-free optics mounting; buy the P-10 C if you want CZ's striker-fired ergonomics for less money. The two are close in weight: TFB TV put the Duty Compact at 27 oz and the P-10 C at about 26 oz. Duty magazines are shared with the P-09 Nocturne series, and Guns.com found P-10 C magazines locked in and fed in its test guns, though their basepads do not sit flush with the Duty's grip.
Against the other chassis pistols, the Duty lists above a standard $580 SIG P320 Compact and the $710 Springfield Echelon. What the extra money buys is a published 50,000-round service-life guarantee and ambidextrous controls on every model. What it costs today is aftermarket depth: holster makers are only starting to cut Duty molds, while the P320 has more than a decade of holsters, grip modules, and slides behind it. Our best full-size 9mm pistols ranking covers the wider field, and you can line the Duty up against any of these in the platform compare tool.

- +Optic sits closer to the bore than any plate-based system
- +Double-sear redundancy addresses P320 uncommanded-discharge concerns
- −Aftermarket trigger and slide ecosystem still maturing (2023 launch)
- −Magazines cost more than Glock factory mags ($45-$55)

Who Should Buy the CZ Duty?
The CZ Duty is the right buy for a shooter who wants one 9mm to run a red dot and a weapon light, shoot a lot, and fit a hand that standard grips miss. The Full is the home-defense and duty-belt choice; the Compact is the better carry gun for a shooter who can hide a 4-inch slide. Left-handed shooters get the most out of it, since every control is ambidextrous at no extra cost. If you already own a P-10 C and like it, the upgrade money goes further on an optic and the parts in our CZ P-10 C upgrades guide.
