Springfield Waypoint SG-100: A Nonslip Carbon Stock

Springfield added three Model 2020 Waypoint rifles with Cerakote SG-100 Super-Grip stocks on September 1, 2026, in .308 Win, 7mm PRC, and .300 Win Mag. The nonslip coating replaces the hand-painted camo at no upcharge, and it does not combine with the carbon fiber barrel or the adjustable comb.

Key Takeaways

  • Three new SKUs at $1,995: .308 Win with a 20-inch barrel, 7mm PRC and .300 Win Mag with 24-inch barrels, announced September 1, 2026.
  • SG-100 is a grip texture, not a camo pattern: Cerakote's Super-Grip coating puts a nonslip, rubberized surface on the bead-blasted carbon fiber stock, and the metal moves to black H-164 Cerakote.
  • No upcharge: the same $1,995 Springfield lists for the hand-painted Evergreen and Ridgeline steel-barrel rifles.
  • Fixed comb and steel barrel only: the carbon fiber barrel and the adjustable cheek comb are cataloged against camo stocks, so the two upgrades do not combine with SG-100.
  • 6.5 Creedmoor is not on the list: SG-100 covers one short action and two magnums, so five of the Waypoint's chamberings stay camo-only.

What Springfield Launched

Springfield Armory added three Model 2020 Waypoint rifles finished in Cerakote SG-100 on September 1, 2026, all at $1,995: the .308 Winchester BAW920308M with a 20-inch barrel, the 7mm PRC BAW9247PRCM with a 24-inch barrel, and the .300 Winchester Magnum BAW924300WMM, also 24 inches.

Nothing mechanical changes. These are standard Waypoints underneath: a stainless Model 2020 action machined from pre-hardened material with EDM-cut raceways and an integral recoil lug, a fluted 4140 tool steel bolt in nitride with tool-free disassembly and dual cocking cams, a fluted 416 stainless barrel with an SA Radial Brake on a threaded muzzle, an AG Composites carbon fiber stock, and Springfield's .75 MOA three-shot accuracy guarantee with match-grade ammunition.

What changes is the finish, in two places at once. The stock swaps its hand-painted camo for the SG-100 coating, and the metal swaps Mil-Spec Green Cerakote H-264, the color on the Evergreen guns, for black H-164. The result is the only solid-color configuration in a Waypoint lineup that is otherwise entirely hand-painted camo.

What SG-100 Actually Does

SG-100 is Cerakote's Super-Grip, a nonslip ceramic coating that lays a tactile, rubberized texture over the surface it is applied to. On the Waypoint it goes onto a bead-blasted carbon fiber stock, so the stock arrives with mechanical tooth in the substrate underneath and a soft-feeling grip layer on top.

That is a functional change rather than a cosmetic one, which separates this release from the usual new-colorway announcement. A carbon fiber hunting stock is a slick thing in the rain, and the standard fix is aftermarket: stippling, grip tape, or a paint job with texture additive mixed in. Springfield is now selling the textured version at the same price as the painted one.

The trade is that texture and camouflage are the same surface. A hand-painted Evergreen or Ridgeline pattern is a finish layer, and so is SG-100, so the rifle gets one or the other. For a rifle that lives in a truck and shoots off a bipod on a bench, black with grip is the better surface. For a rifle carried in the open on a spot-and-stalk hunt, giving up a broken-up pattern to gain grip is a genuine cost, not a marketing footnote.

The Configuration Trade Nobody Lists

The SG-100 stock cannot be combined with either of the Waypoint's two paid upgrades. All three SG-100 rifles are steel-barreled and fixed-comb, while the carbon fiber barrel and the three-axis adjustable cheek comb are cataloged only against the hand-painted camo stocks.

Springfield's ladder climbs from the base steel-barrel, fixed-comb rifle through the adjustable comb, then the carbon fiber barrel, then both together. SG-100 lives on the bottom rung only, at the entry price. A buyer who wants the grip texture and the lighter barrel is choosing between them, and a buyer who runs a tall scope mount and needs comb height is choosing between texture and cheek weld, which is the harder of the two calls.

The chambering list narrows it further. SG-100 covers one short action and two magnums, and it skips 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .300 PRC, and 7mm Rem Mag. The 6.5 Creedmoor omission is the sharpest of those, because it is the chambering the rest of this price class is built around. Our 6.5 Creedmoor guide covers where that cartridge earns its reputation, and the precision rifle buying guide ranks what else this budget reaches.

What the Rifle Needs From the Buyer

Three things, and the receiver pattern makes two of them easy. Springfield ships a Picatinny mount on a receiver drilled to the Remington 700 short-action pattern with 6-48 screws, so the entire Remington 700 base and ring supply fits without an adapter hunt. Rings are a straightforward purchase against a known standard rather than a proprietary one, and our scope ring guide covers height and material selection against objective diameter.

The magazine is AICS, and Springfield includes one 5-round magazine. Match the magazine to the action before ordering a spare: the .308 Winchester rifle is a short action and takes short-action AICS magazines, while the 7mm PRC and .300 Winchester Magnum are long actions and need long-action AICS magazines. Short-action bodies do not feed either magnum. Both are well-supplied patterns in polymer and metal, and a hunting rifle with exactly one detachable magazine is a rifle one dropped magazine away from being a single-shot, so budget for a second at purchase.

The muzzle is threaded under the SA Radial Brake, which puts a suppressor on the table for anyone who wants one. Our hunting suppressor guide covers the .30-caliber cans that suit a 7mm PRC or .300 Win Mag hunting rifle, and the component catalog lists current bases, rings, magazines, and bipods by fitment.

Who Should Buy the SG-100 Waypoint

The buyer this fits is the one who was going to order a steel-barreled, fixed-comb Waypoint anyway and does not need camouflage. That buyer gets a better gripping surface and a black rifle for the same $1,995, which is a straightforward upgrade with no cost attached.

It also suits a rifle that gets handled wet: coastal and mountain hunts, a truck gun that rides in weather, and range work where a slick forend against a bag or a barricade is a real handling problem. The two magnum chamberings point the same direction, since a 7mm PRC or .300 Win Mag recoiling into a wet palm is exactly the case a nonslip stock was made for.

Skip it if you want a carbon fiber barrel, need comb height for a tall optic, or shoot 6.5 Creedmoor, because all three of those send you back to a camo SKU. Skip it too if concealment matters more than grip on your hunts. To price a complete rifle with optic, rings, and a bipod before committing, run the parts list through the rifle builder, and the deer hunting rifle guide places the Waypoint against the rest of the field at this price.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cerakote SG-100 on the Springfield Waypoint?
SG-100 is a Cerakote coating branded Super-Grip. Springfield applies it to the bead-blasted carbon fiber stock of the Model 2020 Waypoint, where it produces a nonslip ceramic surface with a tactile, rubberized texture. It replaces the hand-painted Evergreen and Ridgeline camo patterns on the three SG-100 SKUs, and it is a grip texture rather than a camouflage pattern, so the rifle comes out solid black.
Does the Springfield Waypoint SG-100 stock cost extra?
No. All three SG-100 rifles carry the same MSRP Springfield lists for the hand-painted camo Waypoints with steel barrels, so the coating is a no-cost alternative to camo rather than an upcharge. The carbon fiber barrel and the three-axis adjustable cheek comb are both paid upgrades above that, and neither is offered with the SG-100 stock, so the SG-100 rifles sit at the entry price of the Waypoint line.
Which calibers is the Waypoint SG-100 available in?
Three: .308 Winchester with a 20-inch barrel (SKU BAW920308M), 7mm PRC with a 24-inch barrel (BAW9247PRCM), and .300 Winchester Magnum with a 24-inch barrel (BAW924300WMM). The rest of the Waypoint chambering list, including 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .300 PRC, and 7mm Rem Mag, is camo only. A buyer who wants 6.5 Creedmoor and the SG-100 stock cannot have both from the factory.
Can you get SG-100 with a carbon fiber barrel or an adjustable comb?
No. All three SG-100 rifles are fixed-comb guns with fluted 416 stainless steel barrels. The carbon fiber barrel and the three-axis adjustable cheek comb are both cataloged only against the hand-painted camo stocks. That is the real trade in this release: the grippier stock and the lighter barrel are mutually exclusive choices at the factory, so a buyer picks texture or picks barrel weight.
What does the Model 2020 Waypoint weigh and what magazine does it use?
The 20-inch .308 Winchester Waypoint weighs 6 lbs 15 oz and is 41.5 inches overall. It feeds from a 5-round AICS short-action detachable magazine and ships with one; the 7mm PRC and .300 Winchester Magnum rifles are long actions and take long-action AICS magazines instead. The action is stainless steel with EDM-cut raceways and an integral recoil lug, the bolt is fluted 4140 tool steel in nitride with tool-free disassembly, and the trigger is a TriggerTech adjustable unit set between 2.5 and 5 pounds.
Does the Waypoint come with a scope rail?
Yes. Springfield ships the Model 2020 Waypoint with a Picatinny mount, and the receiver uses the Remington 700 short-action screw pattern with 6-48 screws. That means the enormous supply of Remington 700 short-action bases and rings fits the rifle, which is one of the quieter reasons the Model 2020 has been easy to build on since launch.
