PMC X-TAC 5.56 NATO 62gr LAP (Green Tip)

The PMC X-TAC 556K is PMC's take on the M855/SS109 green tip specification, delivering a 62-grain steel-core penetrator at 3,100 fps from a 20-inch barrel. Manufactured by Poongsan Corporation in South Korea, the same factory that produces ammunition for the South Korean military, the X-TAC line benefits from military-grade quality control applied to commercial production. The result is an M855-equivalent round with tighter lot-to-lot consistency than many surplus alternatives.

The 62-grain LAP (Light Armor Piercing) projectile features the standard SS109 construction: a steel penetrator tip over a lead core in a copper jacket, identified by the green-painted tip. This gives it the same barrier-blind performance as milspec M855, reliably defeating intermediate barriers like auto glass, sheet metal, and light building materials. From a 16-inch barrel, expect around 2,920 fps with 1,173 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle.

What separates the X-TAC from bulk M855 is the brass. PMC uses fresh, properly annealed brass cases with Boxer primers, making every case reloadable. Compared to Lake City surplus with crimped primers and mixed headstamps, the X-TAC is a cleaner, more consistent product that feeds reliably across all AR-15 platforms. At roughly the same price per round as bulk M855, it is one of the best values in 5.56 green tip ammunition.
