Daniel Defense
The M4-length Daniel Defense barrel: 14.5" Government profile, cold hammer forged, on a mid-length gas system.

The 14.5" Government profile barrel is the M4 length, and it is the one clone builders reach for when the target is an M4A1 or a SOPMOD Block II style rifle. Daniel Defense cold hammer forges it from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel, chrome lines the bore, and coats the exterior in mil-spec heavy phosphate.
Gas is mid-length rather than carbine, which is the meaningful difference between this barrel and the shorter Government barrels in the line. A longer dwell before the gas port means a slower, softer pressure curve, less bolt velocity, and a gentler impulse to the shooter. The journal is .750" and the muzzle is 1/2x28, so any standard low-profile gas block and any common 5.56 muzzle device fit. Configurations run 1.50 lbs stripped, 1.58 lbs with a low-profile gas block, and 1.81 lbs with a front sight base.
The legal detail matters on this length. ATF measures barrel length including a permanently attached muzzle device, so a 14.5" barrel needs a pinned and welded device that brings it to at least 16 inches. An A2 birdcage adds roughly 1.5 inches, which lands exactly on the line with no margin, so builders normally choose a longer device such as a SureFire SF3P-556 or a BCM Comp Mod 1. The alternative is to register the lower as a short-barreled rifle and run the muzzle device threaded on.
