Magpul
Magpul's modular ambi safety with three lever styles and color-coded indicators
Magpul took their time entering the safety selector market, and the ESK shows the benefit of being late. Instead of shipping one lever shape and calling it done, the ESK kit includes three: full-length, short, and hybrid. Each lever presses onto the selector drum's keyways with zero wobble and pops off with a small punch or hex key when you want to reconfigure. No roll pins, no set screws, no tools beyond what is already on the bench.
The selector drum is fully-machined, heat-treated chromoly steel with a QPQ (quench-polish-quench) finish for extreme wear and corrosion resistance. The drum is reversible for 60 or 90-degree throw. Six indicator pins ship in the kit: three black and three red, so you can color-code the fire position for instant visual confirmation. The indicators double as non-load-bearing secondary lever locks, adding a layer of retention without affecting function.
At $47, the ESK undercuts the Radian Talon and every steel option in the category while including more lever configurations out of the box. The trade-off is polymer levers instead of aluminum or steel. For most shooters, the polymer is plenty durable, lighter, and quieter against the receiver. For hard-use duty builds, steel options from FCD or Badger make more sense. But for the majority of builds, the ESK is the best value ambi safety on the market right now.
