The VLTOR A5 Spring and Buffer Kit is the core service kit for rifles built around VLTOR's A5 recoil system. It pairs the standard A5H2 buffer with a rifle-length action spring, VLTOR lockplate, and castle nut, giving builders the moving parts and mounting hardware needed once a compatible A5 receiver extension tube is already on hand. The A5 layout uses a longer receiver extension than a standard carbine system, so these parts are not interchangeable with ordinary carbine buffer components.
The included A5H2 buffer weighs 5.3 ounces and is the standard middle-weight starting point for the A5 system. The rifle-length spring works with the longer A5 extension to create a slower, more controlled bolt movement that can smooth recoil and broaden reliability across common 5.56 AR-15 configurations. Builders can tune further with other A5 buffer weights from A5H0 through heavier options, but the A5H2 remains the default baseline for many general-purpose rifles.
Real-world testing consistently shows the A5 system delivers superior performance compared to standard carbine setups. Shooters report noticeably smoother recoil impulses, better lock time for improved accuracy, and more forgiving reliability with varying ammunition and environmental conditions. The system has become the go-to recommendation from serious instructors and armorers for anyone building a duty rifle or premium AR-15. While more expensive than a standard buffer tube kit, the A5 system's performance benefits make it a legitimate upgrade that transforms how the rifle feels and functions.
