Overview

The Sig Sauer Romeo MSR Gen II is a second-generation budget red dot purpose-built for MSR (modern sporting rifle) platforms. Sig redesigned the original Romeo MSR from the ground up for 2026, updating the housing, riser mount, and illumination controls while holding the street price near $130. It ships factory-installed on the Sig M400 Forge, making it the default optic for buyers stepping into Sig's $999 duty-ready AR segment.

The headline feature is the redesigned see-through riser mount. Rather than blocking the lower third of the sight window, the riser is cut out to let the shooter co-witness factory or aftermarket iron sights through the optic without removing or flipping down the BUIS. The 1x 20mm objective with parallax-free optical design keeps target acquisition fast across both eyes open and scanned presentations. A rotary illumination dial on the left side cycles through 12 brightness settings (10 daylight, 2 night-vision compatible), which is easier to manipulate with gloves or in the dark than the push-button interface common at this price tier.

Runtime is 35,000 hours on a single CR2032 battery with the dot at a mid brightness setting. Weight is 5.7 ounces, overall length is 69.7mm, and the sight is IPX-7 waterproof and fogproof. Available in red ($129.99, SORMSR101) or green ($139.99, SORMSR102) reticle variants; both use a 2 MOA dot. Total elevation travel is 100 MOA. The Romeo MSR Gen II covers the typical use-case envelope for a 0-200 yard AR-15 optic without reaching for premium features like shake-awake or solar backup - and at this price, it doesn't need to.

Key Features

  • 1x magnification with 20mm clear aperture
  • 2 MOA dot reticle - red (SORMSR101) or green (SORMSR102)
  • See-through riser mount enables iron sight co-witness
  • Rotary illumination dial with 12 settings (10 daylight + 2 NV)
  • 35,000 hour battery life on single CR2032
  • Parallax-free optical design
  • 100 MOA total elevation travel
  • IPX-7 waterproof and fogproof
  • 5.7 oz weight / 69.7mm length
  • Sig Infinite Guarantee (lifetime, transferable)

Pros

  • +Factory-included on the Sig M400 Forge at no added cost
  • +See-through riser solves iron sight co-witness without BUIS flipping
  • +Rotary illumination dial is faster and more glove-friendly than buttons
  • +35,000 hour runtime rivals mid-tier optics at value pricing
  • +Parallax-free design works well across both-eyes-open presentations
  • +Sig Infinite Guarantee covers the optic for life without registration

Cons

  • Green reticle variant costs $10 more than red
  • Glass tint is average for the price point
  • Not intended for enclosed-emitter or high-recoil platforms beyond AR-15
