The Glock 34 Gen5 MOS is the longest-barreled factory 9mm Glock, purpose-built for competitive shooting. The 5.31-inch barrel provides a longer sight radius than the G17 (4.49 inches), translating to improved mechanical accuracy and easier sight alignment at speed. The extended slide also adds reciprocating mass, which softens the recoil impulse compared to shorter-barreled models.
The MOS (Modular Optic System) cut accepts the same adapter plates as the G17 MOS, covering Trijicon RMR, Holosun 507C, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and other common footprints. USPSA Production and Carry Optics divisions both allow the G34, and it remains one of the most popular platforms in both divisions. The extended slide release, reversible magazine catch, and Gen5 Marksman Barrel are all standard.
For home defense, the G34 offers the same reliability and capacity as the G17 with marginally better ballistic performance from the longer barrel. The trade-off is a longer overall length (8.74 inches vs 7.95 inches), which matters only if you plan to maneuver in tight spaces. Most home defense scenarios benefit from the accuracy and velocity gains of the longer barrel.
