The commercial HK Mark 23 is the closest civilian counterpart to the USSOCOM MK23 Mod 0. HK's operator manual says the core pistol is almost identical; the commercial slide has Mark 23 markings and the barrel uses SAAMI headspace. The .45 ACP pistol keeps the long threaded O-ring barrel, separate frame-mounted safety and decocker, 12-round magazine, and oversized trigger guard of the military design. Its large 9.65-inch frame preserves the original form but makes it cumbersome as an ordinary carry pistol. The proprietary accessory grooves also do not accept a generic Picatinny light without a compatible mount.
