Overview

The PSA Sabre AR-V is a roller-delayed blowback 9mm built around Maxim Defense's factory-installed RDB buffer system, where the base AR-V uses a conventional blowback recoil assembly. Spherical bearings sit in pockets in the guide rod and bear against an inclined collar, accelerating a rear delay mass and retarding initial bolt movement so chamber pressure drops further before the case starts to move. The result is a softer, slower-feeling impulse and less bolt bounce than a conventional blowback AR-9. The delay mechanism is contained in the buffer assembly rather than in the bolt head and trunnion, which is how it differs from an MP5's breech-mounted roller geometry.

Sabre-specific parts carry the rest of the package: a hard chrome-coated bolt carrier group, Radian Raptor LT charging handle, Radian Talon ambidextrous safety, a Sabre Claw two-stage DLC trigger, and a SABRE QDSM free-float handguard. The 8-inch nitrided 4150V chrome-moly barrel ships 1/2x28 threaded with an SBA4 pistol brace in RAL 8000 finish. It keeps the AR-V's magazine interface, so PSA U9 and CZ Scorpion-pattern magazines still drop in.

Because the buffer runs on close-tolerance ball bearings, PSA has publicly noted the charging handle can feel stiffer out of the box than a conventional blowback gun until the system breaks in over a few range trips. This is a new product line (launched mid-2025) with limited independent long-term reliability data; as of this writing it was listed only on PSA's own site, so verify current availability and retailer options before buying.
