Overview

The SIG P220 has been in continuous production since 1975, making it one of the longest-running production pistol designs in the world. Adopted by the Swiss Army, law enforcement agencies across Europe, and US agencies including the DEA, the P220 established SIG's reputation for accuracy and trigger quality before the polymer pistol era redefined the market. The Legion upgrade package takes that proven architecture and applies factory-level custom work that would otherwise require a pistolsmith.

The Legion package delivers several meaningful upgrades over the standard P220. The trigger receives a custom action job from SIG's Legion gunsmiths, reducing the DA pull weight and improving the SA break without altering the basic geometry. G10 grips replace the standard polymer panels, providing a sharper texture that maintains purchase in wet conditions. XRAY3 day/night sights are standard, featuring a tritium front sight with a high-visibility green ring and blacked-out rear notch for fast target acquisition in all lighting. The SIG Legion gray Nitron finish and Legion medallion in the grip distinguish the package externally.

The single-stack design keeps the P220 at 1.35 inches wide, meaningfully slimmer than the Glock 21's double-stack frame. For shooters transitioning from 1911 carry who want a decocker instead of a manual thumb safety, the P220 offers the most intuitive parallel: decocked with a round chambered is roughly analogous to 1911 cocked-and-locked in terms of the deliberate first-shot commitment, but the decocker eliminates the reholstering risk associated with swiping a thumb safety on. The 8+1 capacity is the tradeoff for that slim profile, which is worth accepting for shooters who prioritize trigger quality and DA/SA manual of arms over round count.
