Overview

The Taurus GX4 is the budget answer to the SIG P365 and Springfield Hellcat. At $310 street, it undercuts the P365 by $200+ while delivering the same 11+1 flush capacity, similar 3.06-inch barrel length, and a comparable 18.7 oz unloaded weight. The GX4 is a clean-sheet design separate from the G3 family — different trigger geometry, different slide stop, different magazines, and (importantly) NO manual safety, which is the GX4's ergonomic departure from the rest of the Taurus polymer line.

The GX4 ships with two flush 11-round magazines in most SKUs. Extended 13- and 15-round magazines are available from Taurus directly ($46-$50). XTech Tactical also makes a +1 grip extension that adds capacity without adding length significantly. There is no rail on the standard GX4, which limits white-light options to clamp-on lights like the Streamlight TLR-6 (sold in a GX4-specific SKU at $140 OP).

The GX4 T.O.R.O. ($350) adds a Shield RMSc optic cut compatible with Holosun 407K X2, EPS Carry, SIG Romeo Zero Elite, Shield RMSc, and Vortex Defender-CCW. Iron sights are polymer factory, with steel-dovetail upgrades available from HiViz, Night Fision (in development), and Meprolight (G3c set fits GX4 with caveats — verify before ordering).

The GX4XL extends the slide and barrel to 3.7 inches for a longer sight radius and slightly higher velocity, similar to the SIG P365XL. Magazines and most accessories cross-fit between GX4 and GX4XL.

Key Features

  • 11+1 capacity flush magazine (13/15-round extended available)
  • 3.06-inch DLC-coated stainless steel barrel
  • Polymer frame with no Picatinny rail (clamp-on light required)
  • No manual safety (departure from G3 family)
  • Loaded chamber indicator + striker block
  • GX4 T.O.R.O. variant adds Shield RMSc optic cut
  • Interchangeable backstraps (small / large)

Pros

  • +Cheapest micro-compact 9mm on the US market by a wide margin
  • +11+1 flush matches P365 / Hellcat standard capacity
  • +T.O.R.O. variant ships optic-ready under $350
  • +DLC-coated barrel is more durable than nitride at this price tier
  • +Lighter than the Hellcat (18.7 oz vs 18.3 oz Hellcat — close, but with 1 round more capacity than Hellcat 11+1)

Cons

  • No Picatinny rail — only clamp-on lights fit (Streamlight TLR-6 is the only mainstream option)
  • Different magazine pattern than G3 / G3c — no cross-fit
  • Smaller aftermarket than P365 or Hellcat
  • No factory thread for suppressor use
  • Polymer sights mandatory upgrade for serious carry
