Overview

The Volquartsen Black Mamba is the production benchmark for a .22 LR competition pistol. The build pairs a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 polymer frame, factory-retrofitted with Volquartsen's Accurizing Kit, to the Volquartsen LLV competition upper: a stainless steel barrel housed in an aluminum shroud, threaded for the included single-port compensator. The result is a 2.25 lb match trigger pull and a recoil-mitigated upper that dominates Steel Challenge rimfire divisions and NRA Bullseye competition.

The platform is offered in 4.5-inch and 6-inch barrel lengths, with the 4.5-inch preferred for Steel Challenge speed work and the 6-inch chosen for Bullseye precision. Standard Mark IV 22/45 magazines (10-round) drop in directly, and the broader Ruger Mark IV aftermarket (extended magazines, sight upgrades, optic plates) all interchange. Volquartsen's Accurizing Kit replaces the factory Ruger trigger, hammer, sear, and disconnector with match-tuned components.

Current Black Mamba pricing starts around the mid-$1,600s for standard 4.5- and 6-inch black anodized configurations and climbs into the high-$1,800s to low-$1,900s for camo, tungsten, battleworn, and dealer-exclusive finishes. At roughly two-and-a-half times the cost of the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Tactical it is built on, the Black Mamba is the competition-grade end of the Mark IV ecosystem rather than a casual range gun. For Steel Challenge rimfire shooters who want a turnkey competition pistol without piecing together a Mark IV upgrade build, this is the default.
