The Samson SAS-14 replaces the Mini-14's factory stock with a full aluminum chassis. The body is 6061-T6 aluminum finished in MIL-A-8625 Type III Class 2 anodizing, it carries an M-LOK handguard with polymer rail covers, and it integrates Samson's SAS-K folding stock with push-button adjustable length of pull (11.25 to 12.25 inches) and cheek riser. Samson builds it in Keene, New Hampshire, and it is the successor to Samson's discontinued walnut-and-steel A-TM folding stock.
Samson fits the SAS-14 to Ruger Mini-14 rifles with serial numbers 181 and higher and to every Mini Thirty. The chassis is 19 inches folded and 27 to 28 inches unfolded; on a rifle with a 16-inch barrel that works out to 26 inches folded and 34 to 35 inches unfolded. It weighs 2.8 lb, or 3.3 lb with the Hannibal Rail. QD sling points sit on the left side of the chassis and on both sides of the stock. The barrel, receiver, and trigger group transfer from the host rifle.
The optic rail is a separate choice. The SAS-14 accepts Samson's Hannibal Rail in Multi and T-1 footprints, and the rail version depends on the rifle: a Mini-14 with the factory flange barrel and a serial beginning with 580 or higher, and every Mini Thirty, takes the 2008/Later rail, while a Mini-14 with the factory straight pencil barrel and a serial from 181 through 579 takes the 2007/Earlier rail. Pick the SAS-14 over a polymer folder such as the ATI Strikeforce when the rifle needs native M-LOK real estate and an adjustable folding stock in an aluminum chassis.
