Overview

The DNT Optics ThermNight TNC335R is the 384-sensor step-up in DNT's fused ThermNight line. It keeps the two-channel format of the cheaper TNC225R, a thermal core plus a Sony Starvis2 1920x1080 day/night camera, but moves from a 256x192 to a 384x288 thermal sensor. The larger core resolves more detail at distance, which is the difference between spotting a heat blob and identifying it as a coyote in the brush before you commit to a shot.

At $1,999.99 through OpticsPlanet the TNC335R sits just under the $2,000 line and stretches its 1200-yard laser rangefinder further than the 225R's 1100-yard unit. Everything else carries over: a 1920x1080 60Hz micro-OLED display, night vision to 20x, an onboard ballistic calculator, a .50 BMG recoil rating, and IP67 sealing. It is the pick when you want the fused thermal-and-night-vision format but need the extra resolution that a 384 core buys at range.

Key Features

  • 384x288 12um thermal core for sharper detail than a 256 sensor
  • Sony Starvis2 1920x1080 day/night camera in the same housing
  • 1920x1080 60Hz micro-OLED display across both channels
  • 1200-yard laser rangefinder with onboard ballistic calculator
  • Thermal 2.5-10x and night vision 5-20x magnification
  • .50 BMG recoil rating with IP67 weather sealing

Pros

  • +384 thermal core resolves targets at range better than a 256
  • +Fused thermal plus full-color day/night camera in one optic
  • +Longer 1200-yard rangefinder than the TNC225R
  • +Stays under $2,000 through the OpticsPlanet route

Cons

  • Roughly 6 hr runtime on a single 21700
  • Heavier than a plain day optic at about 25.6 oz
  • DNT direct pricing runs higher than the OpticsPlanet route
