Best Holosun Red Dots 2026: AR-15, Rifle & Pistol Optics

Holosun sent us this one, and it has 500 rounds on a Knight's Armament SR-15 without shifting zero. The window is the reason to buy it: big, square, and it doesn't feel like looking down a tube. Ours was well off from the factory and took a full range session to zero. It uses its own mount pattern, so shop for the AEMS version of whatever mount you want; Scalarworks, Reptilia, American Defense, and Unity all make one.

The EVO fixes the two things people knocked the original ARO for: the window grows to 26mm, and Solar Failsafe keeps the dot lit if the CR2032 dies. It keeps Shake Awake and the Aimpoint Micro footprint, and ships with both a lower 1/3 and a low mount. It's a single 2 MOA dot, so step up to the AEMS Pro X2 if you want a circle.

The ARO gets you an enclosed tube, Shake Awake, a 50,000 hour rating, and the Aimpoint Micro footprint for budget money. It skips the EVO's solar panel and bigger window, which is most of the price gap between them. For a first rifle it goes head to head with the Romeo 5 Gen 2.

The Core X2 is the AEMS Pro X2's window and enclosed housing for less money: the same 1.1 x 0.87 inch glass, a four-post lower 1/3 mount in the box, and compatibility with existing AEMS mounts. You give up Solar Failsafe and the 65 MOA circle, since it's a single 2 MOA dot. If you'd only ever run the dot, this is the AEMS to buy.

The DRS-TH lays a 256x192 thermal image over a red dot reticle, so heat signatures show up right where you are aiming. You pay for it in weight, 18.5 oz against 3 to 10 oz for the other dots here, and in runtime, about 10 hours of thermal per 18350 battery. It earns a spot if it replaces a thermal monocular you would otherwise carry.

Holosun sent us this one. Ours is the gold-dot version, and it has more than 1,000 rounds on a Glock 47 MOS through training classes and competition, drawn from kydex and reholstered dirty, with no flicker, no battery trouble, and no measurable shift in zero. The gold dot held its edge against tan cardboard and sun-bleached berms where red washes out. The one real complaint is mounting: the 509T footprint needs a plate on nearly every slide, and our plate stack needed suppressor-height irons to co-witness.

The 507C X2 is the open-emitter Holosun for an RMR-cut slide: it bolts straight onto the most common pistol footprint with no plate, and brings the dot-or-circle MRS, Solar Failsafe, and a side-loading CR1632. Being open is the trade. Lint or rain in the emitter well can blank the dot, so for a carry gun look at the EPS Core or the 509T X2 instead.

Holosun sent us this one, and ours rides an HK CC9, which mills the Holosun K cut into the slide, so the adapter plate stayed in the box. It has been faultless through carry and live fire. The side-loading CR1620 is why it stays our default carry recommendation: a battery change doesn't mean pulling the optic and re-zeroing. On the CC9 specifically, the factory irons sit too low to co-witness through it.

The EPS Core is the enclosed dot for a Shield RMSc cut you don't want to plate: it mounts directly, puts the full-size 0.9 x 0.63 inch EPS window in a 1.4 oz body, and side-loads a CR1620. You give up the EPS Carry's 7075-T6 housing and its 2 MOA and 6 MOA dot choices; dot-only Cores come in 3 MOA, and only the MRS versions get Solar Failsafe.

The 507K X2 is the 507C's dot-or-circle MRS shrunk to the Holosun K footprint for slim pistols, at 1.0 oz and for less than the EPS Carry. It's an open emitter, so lint can reach the LED on a carry gun, and it ships without an RMSc adapter plate: on a four-lug RMSc cut you buy a plate or file two lugs off the slide. K-cut slides like the HK CC9 take it directly.

The original 509T shares the X2's titanium enclosed housing, dot-or-circle MRS, Solar Failsafe, and 509T footprint, so the same adapter plates fit. The X2 is the current revision, adding Lockout Mode and clearer glass. Buy the original only when you find it for less than the X2; at the same price, take the X2.

The GR4 is the one Holosun unit that replaces both a weapon light and a laser: 1,000 lumens of white light, a 60mW VCSEL IR illuminator with a flood-to-spot slider, and co-aligned green and IR lasers, so a daylight zero on the green carries over to the IR. It weighs 8.5 oz. Buy it if you want one box on the rail; buy the GR3 if you already run a light.

The GR3 is the GR4 without the white light: co-aligned green and IR aiming lasers and the same 60mW VCSEL illuminator with a flood-to-spot slider, in a 6.4 oz body that runs on one CR123A. Pair it with the light you already have. If your rail has room for only one unit, the GR4 is the better buy.
