Federal Premium HST 147-grain is the heavy, subsonic counterpart to the 124gr HST. Operating below the speed of sound at a catalog-listed 1,000 fps, it delivers the same proven HST expansion profile with reduced muzzle flash and felt recoil. The heavier bullet carries more momentum, achieving an ideal 15.24 inches of penetration in calibrated gel — right in the center of the FBI's 12-18" specification.

The 147gr weight is the preferred choice for suppressed pistol use, as subsonic velocity eliminates the supersonic crack that defeats the purpose of a suppressor. It also performs well from compact and subcompact barrels where lighter loads can lose velocity and underexpand.
