Hornady Subsonic 300 AAC Blackout 190-grain Sub-X is built for shooters who want suppressed .300 BLK with an expanding bullet rather than a simple heavy FMJ or OTM. The Sub-X bullet is engineered to deliver reliable expansion at velocities as low as 900 fps. This is achieved through Hornady's patented Flex Tip technology, which features a polymer insert within the hollowpoint cavity combined with long grooves in the gilding metal jacket. Together with the bullet's flat profile, these design elements ensure consistent expansion even at the reduced velocities inherent to subsonic ammunition.

The 190-grain Sub-X bullet provides an optimal balance of weight, ballistic coefficient (0.437 G1), and sectional density (0.286) for subsonic .300 Blackout applications. With a muzzle velocity of 1,050 fps and muzzle energy of 465 ft-lbs, this ammunition remains subsonic throughout its flight path, eliminating the supersonic crack that defeats the purpose of suppressor use. The heavier bullet weight provides superior penetration and energy transfer compared to lighter subsonic loads, while the expanding design ensures effective terminal performance for hunting medium game (50-300 lbs) and personal defense applications.

The load uses a 1:8" recommended twist rate, and the ammunition is loaded into brass cases for reliable feeding and extraction.
