The Rosco K9 12.5" Sage Dynamics barrel is a 416R stainless 5.56 NATO barrel that Rosco developed with Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics, who also named its Patrol gas length. Rosco nitrides both the barrel and the barrel extension, and the spec sheet reads 1:7 twist, 1/2x28 threads, .750" gas journal, recessed target crown, and 27.05 oz.
Patrol gas is Rosco's proprietary port location, which Rosco positions as smoother than carbine gas and more reliable than mid-length on an 11.5 to 12.5 inch barrel. The barrel ships with the matching Patrol-length gas tube because standard tubes do not fit; the gas block is sold separately.
The design brief was precision first, with room for occasional heavy use rather than a steady diet of high-volume training. 416R stainless is a softer barrel steel than chrome-lined CMV, so a barrel that regularly sees 300 to 500 round range sessions or 1,000-round courses reaches the end of its service life sooner than a chrome-lined CHF barrel. Against the Daniel Defense or BCM 12.5" Government barrels, the K9 is the accuracy-leaning, lower-cost pick, and at 27.05 oz it weighs several ounces more.
