Enhanced BCG with redesigned bolt and extractor geometry. Improved reliability with steel-cased ammo.
The LMT Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group represents a fundamental reimagining of Eugene Stoner's original AR-15 bolt design. Rather than simply applying premium coatings to standard geometry, LMT engineers redesigned critical components to address extraction reliability issues that plague standard bolts, particularly when using steel-cased ammunition or operating suppressed firearms with increased back pressure. The result is a BCG that delivers exceptional reliability across all ammunition types and operating conditions.
The defining feature is LMT's "lobster tail" dual-spring extractor system. Unlike standard single-spring extractors that can lose tension over time, the dual-spring design provides more consistent extraction force and longer spring life. If one spring fatigues, the second maintains extraction reliability. The carrier features an altered cam path that increases dwell time, allowing more complete extraction before the bolt begins to unlock. To accommodate this longer cam path, the front edge of the carrier is extended to retain the extractor pivot pin throughout the extended movement range.
The bolt itself uses AerMet steel, which is stronger than traditional Carpenter 158, with redesigned lugs featuring generous radiusing and stress relief cuts. These modifications allow individual lugs to elastically deform slightly under pressure, distributing loads more evenly across the contact patch and preventing catastrophic lug failure. The carrier also features modified gas ports to improve gas flow and expel excessive gas to the side rather than into the shooter's face. This BCG is specifically optimized for 14.5" and 16" carbine rifles, particularly when used with suppressors. LMT's Enhanced BCG is the choice for maximum reliability regardless of ammunition quality or environmental conditions.
