Real Avid AR15 Star Chamber Cleaning Pads (20-Pack)

The star chamber is the recess at the rear of the AR-15 barrel extension where the bolt lugs lock, and it is the single hardest spot on the rifle to clean. Carbon packs into the lug recesses where a bore brush and a flat patch cannot reach, and left alone it eventually causes sluggish lockup and extraction problems. Real Avid's Star Chamber Cleaning Pads are precision-cut to the star geometry so the pad seats into the lug recesses and wipes them out.

The pads do not work alone. The correct sequence is mechanical then chemical: run a star chamber brush to break the baked-on carbon loose, soak a pad with solvent or CLP, mount it on the chamber tool or a rod, and twist it into the recess to lift the loosened fouling. One or two pads per cleaning is typical, more if the rifle is heavily fouled or has not been chamber-cleaned in a while.

This is an AR-15 specific consumable. The star chamber geometry is unique to the AR-15/M16 barrel extension, so these pads do nothing for a piston AK, a bolt gun, or a pistol. For an AR-15 that sees regular use, chamber cleaning is the maintenance step most owners skip and the one that actually prevents bolt-related malfunctions.
