Steiner
Civilian IR/visible laser aiming device
The Steiner DBAL-A3 represents the first eye-safe IR laser pointer, IR illuminator, and green visible laser in a single compact civilian-legal unit. Based on the standard-issue DBAL for U.S. warfighters, the A3 civilian model features a Class I (0.7mW) infrared pointer, focusable Class IIIR <4mW infrared illuminator, and Class IIIa visible green laser. The co-aligned visible and IR lasers make zeroing procedures straightforward—dial in the green laser during daylight, and the IR is automatically zeroed for night vision operations.
Built from lightweight yet durable 6061-T6 aluminum alloy with Type III hard anodized finish, the DBAL-A3 meets MIL-STD 810G standards for extreme temperature tolerance and is submersible to 10 meters. The IR illuminator's adjustable beam angle ranges from a tight 2-degree spot to a wide 30-degree flood, providing flexibility for different engagement distances and tactical scenarios. Being laser-based rather than LED, the illuminator produces minimal downrange signature compared to traditional LED IR illuminators, enhancing covert operation capability.
The DBAL-A3 runs off a single CR123 battery with approximately 3 hours runtime using both IR illuminator and laser simultaneously. The visible green laser remains operational in cold weather down to -20C thanks to its direct diode design. While the civilian eye-safe IR output is lower than military full-power units, the DBAL-A3 provides functional capability out to 200+ meters, making it suitable for most civilian and law enforcement applications.
