Overview

Where the Matador rail asks you to give up the rear sight and commits the optic to the dust-cover position, the BadAce scout mount takes the opposite approach: it mounts forward without drilling, tapping, or any permanent modification to the rifle. That makes it the answer for SKS owners who want a long-eye-relief scope or a red dot but do not want to alter a surplus rifle, and for the variants that proprietary receiver-cover rails skip.

Compatibility is the headline. BadAce lists fitment across all SKS variants, including the Russian, Chinese, Romanian, and the Yugoslavian Model 59/66, which many SKS optic mounts cannot accommodate because of the Yugo's grenade-launcher sight and different cover geometry. The Picatinny rail is forward-mounted and removable, and it can be flipped to change positioning. A removable spring-steel shell deflector keeps ejected brass off the optic; pull the deflector and you can reposition for stripper-clip loading with certain red dots.

The forward scout position is a deliberate tradeoff. A long-eye-relief optic mounted ahead of the action keeps the loading path clearer than a receiver-bridge scope and preserves more of the rifle's handling, at the cost of running a true scout-style optic rather than a conventional-eye-relief scope. For a no-permanent-modification SKS optic solution that fits everything, this is the mount.

Key Features

  • No drill, no tap, no permanent modification to the rifle
  • Fits all SKS variants including Russian, Chinese, Romanian, and Yugo Model 59/66
  • Forward-mounted removable Picatinny rail that can be flipped for positioning
  • Removable spring-steel shell deflector protects the optic from ejected brass
  • Long-eye-relief scout position for magnified optics or red dots
  • Dust cover removes without pulling the optic; gas-tube removal requires rail removal

Pros

  • +Fits every SKS variant, including the hard-to-mount Yugo 59/66
  • +No drilling or permanent modification preserves a surplus rifle
  • +Removable rail and deflector allow stripper-clip loading with some red dots
  • +Forward scout position keeps the action clearer than a receiver-bridge scope

Cons

  • Scout long-eye-relief position requires an LER optic, not a standard scope
  • Single-round loading when running an LER scope; no stripper clips in that setup
  • Gas-tube removal requires taking the optic and rail off
