Overview

The ATN BinoX 6 Dual 256 is the entry model in ATN's multispectral binocular line. Its thermal channel uses a 256x192, 12-micron VOx sensor rated at NETD 20 mK or better at 50 Hz behind a 25mm f/0.9 lens, giving a 7.0 x 5.3 degree field of view and 6-48x magnification. That low pixel count is the trade for the price: heat signatures show up, but fine detail comes from the digital channel.

The day/night channel matches the 640 model: a 1.8 inch 3840x2160 CMOS sensor behind a 55mm f/2.0 lens with a replaceable IR illuminator (low, medium, high) for roughly 400 m of effective night viewing. A 905 nm Class 1 rangefinder reads to 1000 m at plus or minus 1 m, images show on a 0.49 inch 1920x1080 OLED, and two replaceable 18650 cells run it for about 8 hours. The IP67 housing weighs 710 g, storage is 64 GB, and ATN rates thermal detection at 1500 m with a 5-year warranty.

Key Features

  • 256x192 12-micron VOx thermal sensor, NETD ≤20 mK, 50 Hz
  • 25mm f/0.9 thermal lens, 6-48x, 7.0 x 5.3 degree field of view
  • 1.8 inch 3840x2160 CMOS day/night channel behind a 55mm f/2.0 lens
  • Replaceable IR illuminator with low, medium, and high settings
  • 905 nm Class 1 laser rangefinder to 1000 m, plus or minus 1 m
  • Two replaceable 18650 batteries, about 8 hours; 64 GB storage
  • IP67 housing, 710 g, 5-year warranty

Pros

  • +Cheapest way into a thermal plus 4K day/night binocular with a rangefinder
  • +710 g is light for a two-eyed thermal
  • +Same 4K day/night channel and rangefinder as the BinoX 6 Dual 640
  • +Replaceable 18650 cells and a 5-year warranty

Cons

  • −256x192 thermal sensor shows far less detail than 640-class cores
  • −7.0-degree thermal view is narrow for scanning
  • −6x base magnification makes close-range scanning harder
