Gideon Optics Pebble E (S&W Bodyguard 2.0)

The Gideon Optics Pebble E puts an enclosed emitter dot on the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0, a pistol that ships with no optic cut. Model specific dovetail inserts replace the factory rear sight and the optic bolts to the slide, so there is no adapter plate stacked under the housing and the slide never gets cut. Driving the factory rear sight out of the dovetail still takes a sight pusher or a punch, and Gideon points anyone uncomfortable with that at a gunsmith. Gideon's open emitter Pebble uses the same mounting approach and the same 7.5mm deck height, which means both sit at the same height over the bore and the enclosed version costs 0.32 oz more.

The sealed housing is the reason to pick this over the open emitter version. A pocket .380 collects lint, sweat, and debris in ways a belt gun does not, and an open emitter optic puts the LED in an exposed channel where that debris blocks the dot. The Pebble E encloses the emitter behind the lens, so the dot stays visible after the gun has spent a week in a pocket holster. The 3 MOA dot comes in red or green with 10 brightness levels, eight for daylight and two for night vision.

A side loading tray takes a single CR1632 without pulling the optic off the slide, so a battery change does not cost the zero. Holding the plus button locks the brightness buttons to stop pocket carry from cycling settings or powering the optic off, and shake awake wakes the dot on movement after roughly 225 seconds of stillness. Elevation and windage give 35 MOA in each direction. Gideon covers the optic under a limited lifetime warranty that includes accidental breakage under normal use.
