Ruger
Big-bore straight-wall AR-15 model 8522 with 18.63-inch barrel, Ruger Elite 452 trigger, and 5-round .450 Bushmaster magazine.
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
Ruger's AR-556 MPR in .450 Bushmaster, model 8522, is the big-bore AR-15 hunting option for shooters who want a straight-wall semi-auto for hogs, bear, and large whitetail. The .450 Bushmaster launches common 250-grain hunting loads above 2,200 fps from this barrel class, putting it in a heavy timber and short-to-midrange hunting role rather than a flat-shooting distance cartridge.
The 18.63-inch cold hammer forged barrel with 1:16 twist is optimized for 250-275 grain hunting bullets. Ruger uses a carbine-length gas system with a Ruger Elite 452 two-stage trigger, Magpul MOE SL stock, and 15-inch free-floating M-LOK handguard. The forged 7075-T6 receivers and Ruger Elite 452 trigger represent a significant step up from the standard AR-556 line.
Practical range on deer and hogs is around 200 yards, limited by the bullet's ballistic coefficient rather than energy. Recoil is notably sharper than .350 Legend, but the AR platform and radial-port brake help manage it. For hog hunting and heavy-timber deer stands in straight-wall states, this rifle earns its keep. One 5-round .450 Bushmaster magazine is included.
