Overview

The Springfield Echelon is Springfield Armory's answer to the SIG P320 and Glock 17, built around a serialized Central Operating Group (COG) fire control chassis that lifts out of any compatible grip module without an FFL transfer. At 17+1 standard capacity (20+1 with extended magazines) in a 24-ounce duty frame, it lands squarely in the full-size defensive/duty segment while solving the biggest pain point of optics-ready pistols.

Its headline feature is the Variable Interface System (VIS), a pin-and-screw pattern that mounts over 30 micro red dots directly to the slide with no adapter plate. Trijicon RMR, RMR HD, SRO, Holosun 407C/507C/508T/509T, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Aimpoint ACRO, and Shield RMSc footprints all seat directly on the slide, closer to the bore than any plate-based system. The plate-free mount eliminates the zero-shift and hardware-fatigue failures that plague plate-mounted duty optics.

Springfield backs the platform with interchangeable small/medium/large grip modules (roughly $65 each) and a double-sear safety system that adds mechanical redundancy the P320 specifically lacks. The 4.5-inch hammer-forged Melonite barrel, aggressive Adaptive Grip Texture, and reversible magazine release round out a duty pistol that competes directly with the Glock 17 Gen 5 and SIG P320 full-size while undercutting both on optic mounting.
