JP Enterprises Silent Captured Spring Gen 2 (H2)

The JP Enterprises Silent Captured Spring is the part most shooters point to when they want the spring noise and bolt bounce gone for good. Instead of a loose buffer and coil spring rattling inside the receiver extension, the SCS is a fully self-contained assembly: the spring and weights ride on an aluminum guide rod that captures everything into one unit. The immediate, obvious result is that the metallic spring twang you feel and hear through the stock simply disappears, and the captured design also damps bolt bounce that can disrupt full-auto and rapid semi-auto cycling.

This Gen 2 H2 version carries an H2-equivalent weight built from tungsten and steel, with a total assembly weight of roughly 6.9 ounces. JP includes a 2.7 inch spacer so the same unit works in either a carbine-length or rifle-length receiver extension, which makes it one of the more flexible premium options on the market. The aluminum guide rod in the Gen 2 design trims weight compared to earlier steel versions while keeping the captured geometry intact.

JP specifically recommends the H2 version for short-barreled rifles, suppressed rifles, select-fire builds, and piston-driven guns, all configurations where extra reciprocating mass and damped cycling pay off. It is the most expensive way to address spring noise and bolt bounce, and that is the honest tradeoff: a Sprinco spring or a Geissele Super 42 costs a fraction as much and addresses twang, but neither fully captures the system or damps bounce the way the SCS does. For a premium duty or competition build where the last bit of refinement matters, the SCS earns its price.
