Burris
Premium FFP 1-8x LPVO on a 34mm tube with 103 MOA adjustment range
The Burris XTR II 1-8x24 stands apart from every other entry in this list by running first focal plane optics on a 34mm tube with 103 MOA of total adjustment range. In a market where most sub-$1,500 LPVOs default to SFP, the XTR II FFP version (model 201018) delivers a reticle with the Ballistic Circle Dot that scales proportionally across the full 1-8x range. This means any magnification setting gives valid range estimation and true holdovers, not just the max setting.
The 34mm tube accommodates the expanded adjustment range and provides a slightly stronger mounting platform than 30mm options, though it restricts ring choices. Weight at 24.4 oz is significant: the XTR II is 3-7 oz heavier than competing 1-8x SFP scopes, which translates directly to front-heavy balance on standard-weight ARs. Shooters pairing this with a lightweight handguard and no suppressor will notice the balance shift less than those running heavy setups.
The XTR II has been discontinued by Burris in favor of the newer XTR III line, but it remains widely available through retailers and the secondary market at significant discounts from its original $1,439 MSRP. For FFP performance at closer to $800-1,100 street pricing, it represents strong value. The Trijicon Credo HX 1-8x28 is the natural comparison at a similar price with a larger objective but running SFP; the XTR II's FFP architecture is the differentiator for precision-oriented buyers.
