Overview

The Faxon FX7 in 8.6 Blackout is the bolt-action host for the cartridge, built for hunters and suppressed-subsonic shooters who prefer a manual action to a semi-auto. It uses a Remington 700-footprint action, so it drops into the deep aftermarket of 700-pattern stocks, chassis, triggers, and scope bases, and it feeds from AICS-pattern magazines that the precision-rifle world already stocks.

The 16-inch barrel carries a 1:3 twist, the original fast-twist rate 8.6 Blackout was built around to stabilize heavy subsonic .338 bullets; SAAMI's 2026 standardization uses a 1:6 reference twist, but 1:3 is what the early hardware including this rifle runs. A bolt action is an ideal pairing for this cartridge: with no gas system cycling, the rifle is mechanically quiet, and running subsonic 300-grain loads through a .338-rated suppressor produces one of the quietest centerfire rifle experiences available. The threaded muzzle accepts any .338-rated can directly.

The FX7 Hunter is the entry configuration at roughly $1,900; Faxon also sells a Competition variant with a DLC-coated action and upgraded features near $2,600. As with every 8.6 Blackout rifle, the host is only half the cost. Factory ammunition is expensive and inconsistently stocked, so plan to reload if you intend to shoot volume.
