Overview

The CZ Scorpion 3+ is the long-overdue refresh of the EVO 3 platform, addressing every major factory ergonomics complaint that drove the EVO 3's massive aftermarket in the first place. Factory M-LOK handguard replaces the polymer rail-cover handguard. Ambidextrous magazine release, bolt catch, and reversible charging handle replace the right-handed-only factory layout. The pistol grip is reshaped to a more natural angle that most shooters find acceptable out of the box. The 7.8-inch barrel ships threaded 1/2-28 from the factory.

This catalog entry represents the 7.8-inch pistol variant, which is the most commonly sold configuration. CZ also makes a 4.7-inch Micro variant and a 16.3-inch carbine. For builder filtering purposes, the pistol is treated as the baseline; barrel-length-gated parts (suppressors, sub-13-inch handguards, certain braces) will surface against the pistol's tier. Carbine owners running the 16.3-inch barrel should expect different barrel-length filtering, and Micro owners running the ultra-short 4.7-inch barrel should verify thread fitment and handguard length manually before ordering parts gated by barrel length.

Magazine compatibility was the biggest engineering question on the redesign, and CZ handled it well. The 3+ uses an updated magazine well that accepts both new dual-cut PMAG 35 EV9 magazines and original EVO 3 magazines via the dual catch geometry. This means most existing Scorpion mags transfer over, and the new Magpul magazines work in both old and new platforms. Factory CZ EVO 3 S1 magazines do not fit, but the cheap and ubiquitous PMAG covers the gap.

The aftermarket caught up quickly. Timney updated their drop-in trigger to fit both generations. Magpul's MOE-EVO grip, mag release, and ESK selector all carry over. HBI's Delta trigger fits both, but HBI built a separate Theta charging-handle line for the 3+. Strike Industries built dedicated 3/3+ stocks and handguards. The 3+ is the better starting point for new buyers who want fewer mandatory upgrades, while the EVO 3 S1 remains the better used-market value if you are already planning the standard grip/trigger/safety upgrade path.

Key Features

  • Factory M-LOK handguard with top Picatinny rail
  • Fully ambidextrous controls (mag release, bolt catch, safety, reversible CH)
  • Improved factory pistol grip angle and texture
  • 1/2-28 threaded barrel from factory (pistol and Micro variants)
  • Dual mag catch geometry accepts new PMAG 35 EV9 and original EVO 3 magazines
  • Reduced parts count compared to EVO 3 for easier disassembly
  • Pistol variant (7.8 in barrel) represented here; Micro (4.7 in) and carbine (16.3 in) sold under separate SKUs

Pros

  • +Better factory ergonomics than EVO 3, fewer mandatory upgrades
  • +Threaded barrel from factory for suppressors and muzzle devices
  • +Ambidextrous controls work for left-handed shooters out of the box
  • +Magpul PMAG 35 EV9 cross-compatible with both generations
  • +Massive existing Scorpion aftermarket ports over for most parts

Cons

  • Some EVO 3 specific parts do not fit (HBI handguard, HBI 1913 adapter, factory CZ S1 mags)
  • Aftermarket is younger and slightly thinner than the mature EVO 3 ecosystem
  • Still simple blowback, recoil character unchanged from EVO 3
  • Higher street price than used EVO 3 S1
