Overview

The Glock 19 Gen6 takes the best-selling handgun in America and fixes its most persistent complaints. Available January 2026 alongside the G17 and G45 Gen6, this is the first G19 that ships optics-ready as standard — three polymer mounting plates in the box, direct slide cuts, no adapter height added. Every Gen6 is an MOS in practice, just without the MOS name or price premium.

The frame redesign is thorough: a palm swell fills the back of the grip, the trigger guard is undercut to eliminate Glock knuckle, the beavertail is enlarged to prevent slide bite and enforce a consistent grip position. RTF6 dual-pattern texture covers more grip surface with extended coverage up to new bilateral thumb rests. Shooters with smaller hands who struggled to reach the trigger without shifting their grip will notice the flat-faced trigger brings the trigger face closer.

Internally, the Gen6 reverts to a single captive recoil spring and introduces a new barrel with different hood geometry — making it incompatible with Gen5 aftermarket barrels. The flat-faced trigger brings the shoe closer for shorter-fingered shooters but regresses from Gen5 in feel: mushier wall, less distinct reset. The beavertail is fixed to the frame — no backstrap options, and the larger profile is polarizing. Magazine capacity is unchanged at 15+1, and Gen3/4/5 magazines still fit. Existing Gen5 holsters work fine — the external dimensions are the same.
