Henry Repeating Arms

Henry Big Boy X Model (.357 Magnum)

The most tactical Henry in current production. 17.4-inch threaded barrel, synthetic black furniture, Picatinny plus M-LOK forend, fiber-optic sights, and a 7+1 tube magazine that loads through the side gate or the traditional removable tube. Lever-action, so it stays exempt from state assault-firearm definitions including Virginia SB 749.

Overview

The Henry Big Boy X Model (H012MX) is the answer to a question Henry resisted for years: what does a pistol-caliber lever gun look like when you build it for shooters who actually want a Picatinny rail, an M-LOK forend, and a threaded muzzle instead of brass and walnut. The receiver and 17.4-inch round barrel are matte blued steel. The stock and forend are synthetic black, the forend carries Picatinny and M-LOK accessory slots plus integrated sling mounting points, and the cheek piece is fixed and rounded. Front and rear sights are both fiber optic, which is unusual on a factory lever gun and genuinely useful in low-light conditions where a traditional buckhorn rear disappears.

The loading system is the differentiator. The X Model accepts cartridges through both the side loading gate, the way most modern lever-action shooters reload, and through the traditional Henry removable inner tube magazine, which lets you dump a full tube into the magazine in seconds for range sessions. Capacity is 7+1 of .357 Magnum or .38 Special. The 5/8x24 thread is the standard 30-caliber suppressor pitch, which means a Banish 30, Omega 36M, or any common 5/8x24 can mounts directly; subsonic .38 Special through this combination is hearing-safe and the lever action does not need to be modified for cycling reliability.

This is the right pick for shooters in jurisdictions where modern semi-autos have been restricted but lever actions retain their exemption. Virginia's SB 749, Washington's HB 1240, and the older PICA framework in Illinois all leave lever-action rifles untouched. The X Model gives you a manually-operated rifle with most of the accessory mounting options of a modern carbine, in a cartridge that handles inside 100 yards for hunting deer or hogs and inside 25 yards for home defense without overpenetrating wallboard the way 5.56 does.

Key Features

  • 17.4-inch round matte blued steel barrel with 5/8x24 threaded muzzle and factory thread protector
  • Synthetic black stock with fixed rounded cheek rest, solid rubber recoil pad, and 14-inch fixed length of pull
  • Synthetic forend with M-LOK accessory slots, Picatinny rail sections, and integrated sling mounting points
  • 7+1 capacity tube magazine that loads through either the side gate or the removable inner tube
  • Fiber-optic front and rear sights for high-visibility low-light shooting
  • Matte blued steel receiver, lever profile fits gloved hands
  • Chambered in .357 Magnum and shoots .38 Special, so subsonic loads work for suppressor use

Pros

  • +Most tactical Henry in current production: synthetic furniture, M-LOK and Picatinny accessory rail, and a factory threaded barrel
  • +Lever-action operation keeps it exempt from Virginia SB 749, Washington HB 1240, and similar state assault-firearm definitions
  • +Dual loading paths (side gate plus removable tube) is rare and genuinely useful for both range sessions and field reloads
  • +5/8x24 thread plus .38 Special subsonic ammunition makes this a viable suppressor host without action modification
  • +Fiber-optic front and rear sights work in low light better than traditional buckhorn lever sights

Cons

  • .357 Magnum is a sub-100-yard cartridge; this is not a deer rifle past brush distances
  • Synthetic furniture sacrifices the walnut-and-brass Henry brand identity that draws many lever buyers
  • Lever cycle speed is slower than any semi-auto in the same defensive role
  • 14-inch length of pull is fixed; no spacer system or adjustable comb
