Overview

The Kuna is an HS Produkt design imported and branded by Springfield Armory. Croatia's HS Produkt is the same shop behind Springfield's Hellion bullpup, Echelon pistol, and the XD/XDM/Hellcat line. The engineering and manufacturing come from HS Produkt; Springfield handles the US branding and distribution. That matters because the Kuna brings roller-delayed operation into the sub-$1,200 bracket, a space previously owned by simple and radial-delayed blowback guns. A transferable HK MP5 runs several times the Kuna's price, so this is the first time the operating system has been available at a mainstream price point.

Construction pairs a monolithic Type III hardcoat anodized aluminum upper with an integral M-LOK handguard and an injection-molded glass-filled polymer lower. Controls are fully ambidextrous: reversible non-reciprocating charging handle, ambi safety, and an AR-pattern grip with Springfield's adaptive grip texture. The 6-inch cold radial hammer-forged Melonite barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and ships with a multi-port muzzle brake, and the Picatinny rail end plate accepts aftermarket braces. Hybrid flip-up metal sights are included.

The Kuna runs proprietary 30-round translucent magazines with metal feed lips (two included); it does not accept MP5, Glock, or CZ Scorpion mags. Spare magazines retail around $36 at Optics Planet, a real magazine tax given the proprietary lockout. The Kuna ships as a pistol without a brace in the base KN9069B configuration; a factory FSA folding-brace variant (KN9069B-FSA) runs $1,330 MSRP.
