20/20 Precision Trigger Sear Mod for Steyr AUG

The Steyr AUG trigger pull is the platform's most-criticized factory feature. The two-stage geometry has long pre-travel, a vague break, and a long reset that interrupts follow-up shots. The 20/20 Precision Trigger Sear Mod, sold through Rat Worx USA, is the most refined drop-in trigger sear upgrade currently available for the AUG. The mod replaces the factory sear with a precision-machined aluminum sear that dramatically reduces pre-travel, sharpens the break, and halves the reset time.

Owners and reviewers describe the result as a near match-grade trigger feel: pre-travel that previously required half an inch of finger movement before the rifle fired now breaks within a fraction of that distance, and the reset is short and tactile rather than vague and long. Pull weight does NOT change with the sear mod alone, so most owners pair the 20/20 sear with the Steyr Enhanced Trigger Spring Kit ($56) to drop the pull weight 2 to 3 lbs at the same time. The combined upgrade is roughly $185 for a near match-grade AUG trigger.

Important fitment note: From 2021 production onward, many AUG A3 and AUG A3 M1 trigger packs require minor fitting before the 20/20 sear functions correctly. The fix is removing 3/32 inch of material from the trigger pack housing's "stop" in the right rear corner, using a 1/8 inch end mill or a Dremel. The mod ships with test instructions to verify proper hammer release after reassembly. Skipping this verification can result in unsafe operation: if the hammer can fall with a relatively light strike of the buttstock on the ground when the safety is OFF, the sear or housing needs additional fitting.
