Reptilia ARCA-S Handguard: 13-Inch Direct-to-Tripod Rail

Reptilia introduced the 13-inch ARCA-S handguard in September 2026. It is an AR-15 free-float rail with a 2.8-inch ARCA-S dovetail machined into the rear of the handguard, right where the rail meets the upper receiver. Clamp a tripod head to that section and the rifle is on the stick. There is no separate ARCA rail to bolt under the M-LOK slots.

ARCA-S is Reptilia's name for that short section. Arca-Swiss is the camera-tripod dovetail standard that shooters already use under stocks and chassis: drop the plate into the clamp, slide fore and aft, lock it. Machining 2.8 inches of that profile into the rear of the rail is the whole product. The rest of the handguard stays M-LOK for a bipod, light, or sling.

The lockup to the upper is Reptilia's patented turnbuckle, the same mounting family the company uses on its other rails, specified for standard M4 and AR-15 upper receivers. The 13-inch rail weighs 377 grams. Black is SKU 100-404. FDE is SKU 100-405. It is machined aluminum, made in the USA, and backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

One 13-inch rail, two colors, one set of numbers. The 11.5-inch version is listed on the same spec sheet at 348 grams and is marked coming soon in both finishes.

The ARCA-S section sits at the receiver because that is the stiffest place on the rail. A tripod clamp hanging off a bolt-on ARCA strip in the M-LOK slots puts the load in the middle of a hollow extrusion. Machining the dovetail into the rear of the handguard puts the clamp next to the barrel nut and the upper receiver, which is where the rail is already thickest.

That location also keeps the rest of the bottom free. A continuous ARCA profile spends the whole underside on the dovetail. The ARCA-S spends 2.8 inches on the clamp and leaves the remaining M-LOK for a bipod, light, or sling QD. If the rifle lives on a tripod and still needs a normal accessory layout, that is the trade the short rear section is making.

The cost of the short section is travel. A full-length ARCA rail lets you slide the rifle a long way on the clamp to balance a heavy optic. 2.8 inches at the receiver is a lockup, not a sliding scale. For the positional and hunting rifles that spend most of their supported time in one clamp position, that is enough. Reptilia already sells a different rail called the Reptilia ARCA Handguard. That product runs a continuous ARCA profile along the bottom, comes in 13-inch and 15-inch lengths, and the 13-inch version weighs 410 grams. The 13-inch ARCA-S weighs 377 grams, 33 grams less, because the dovetail is a 2.8-inch rear section instead of a full-length extrusion.

Those are two answers to the same tripod problem. The continuous rail is the one to buy when the optic is heavy enough that you need to slide the rifle on the clamp to find balance. The ARCA-S is the one that shipped for a standard M-LOK layout plus a dedicated clamp at the receiver. Do not mix the photos or the SKUs: the older rail is 100-397 through 100-401. The ARCA-S that is for sale now is 100-404 and 100-405.

Torque the barrel nut to 50 ft-lbs. Snug the turnbuckle by hand and use red thread locker. Those two numbers are the entire published install spec.

Reptilia sells a barrel nut and turnbuckle wrench separately and calls it highly recommended. A generic AR barrel-nut wrench can hit 50 ft-lbs. The turnbuckle is Reptilia-specific, so the matching wrench is the tool worth ordering with the rail. The company does not list whether a barrel nut ships in the box; treat the wrench kit as its own line item.

Buy the 13-inch ARCA-S if the rifle is an AR-15 that goes on a tripod and you want the clamp built into the rail. That is the positional carbine, the hunting AR that sits on a stick for a long wait, and the range rifle that lives on a tripod more than it lives on a bipod. Black is 100-404. FDE is 100-405. Skip it if you already like the rail on the gun and only need a bolt-on ARCA adapter, if you want to slide the rifle a long way on the clamp (that is Reptilia's other ARCA Handguard), or if you are waiting on the 11.5-inch SKU. An 11.5-inch ARCA-S is listed at 348 grams and is not for sale yet.

If the job is a low, canted one-piece scope mount on a bolt gun, that is a different Reptilia part. The Reptilia AGS mount holds a scope at 1.34 inches over the rail. The ARCA-S is the AR-15 tripod handguard. Pick by which problem you actually have.
