For shooters coming from irons or a basic red dot who want meaningful magnification for 200-400 yard shooting, the Strike Eagle Gen II is the obvious first step without overcommitting budget.

The AR-BDC3 reticle is calibrated for 5.56 and works particularly well on 16-inch barrel ARs. The 1 MOA center dot sits in a 16.625 MOA broken circle that snaps the eye to center quickly at 1x, then at 4-6x the numbered holdover stadia cover 200-600 yard holds for M193 and M855 loads. It runs SFP, so the holdovers are only accurate at maximum magnification. The 140 MOA adjustment range is generous for a budget scope and provides ample room for any reasonable zero.

Compared to the Razor HD Gen II, the Strike Eagle trades glass clarity and daylight-bright illumination for accessibility. The glass is serviceable but shows edge softness and chromatic fringing at maximum magnification. Illumination has 11 settings but the top setting is not daylight-visible in full sun. For shooters who primarily train in shade or overcast conditions, and who aren't pushing past 400 yards, those limitations are rarely encountered.
