Overview

The Daniel Defense DD4 V7 SLW is the lightweight 5.56 AR-15 for buyers who want a shorter, faster-handling rifle with the DD4 controls package. Its 14.5-inch lightweight-profile cold hammer forged, chrome-lined barrel uses a 1:7 twist and mid-length direct-impingement gas. The pinned and welded Dead Air Xeno flash hider is part of the factory configuration, while the 13.5-inch DD4 flat-front rail keeps the front end slim and leaves room for the Xeno system.

At 6.2 pounds, the SLW pairs its lightweight barrel with the DD4 controls package. The lower is fully ambidextrous, the trigger is an upgraded three-piece design, and the M-LOK handguard provides flexible accessory placement. The M16-profile bolt carrier group is chrome lined, magnetic-particle tested, and fitted with a properly staked gas key.

The tradeoff is the pinned-and-welded muzzle device. It gives the rifle a factory Xeno mounting interface, but changing to a different muzzle system requires gunsmith work instead of a normal muzzle-device swap. The Xeno setup also narrows suppressor choices compared with a plain 1/2x28 muzzle, so it makes the most sense when that mounting ecosystem is part of the plan.
