Daniel Defense DD4 RIII S

The Daniel Defense DD4 RIII S is the 11.5-inch factory short-barreled rifle in the RIII line. The barrel is a cold hammer forged Chrome Moly Vanadium Government profile tube, chrome lined, 1:7 twist, HP/MPI tested, running a carbine-length direct-impingement gas system behind a pinned low-profile gas block. That length splits the difference between the 10.3-inch MK18 pattern and a 14.5-inch carbine: it keeps the package short enough for vehicle and interior work while recovering some of the velocity a 10.3-inch barrel gives away.

The front end is the RIS III 10.5, Daniel Defense's 6061-T6 M-LOK rail on the patented 6-bolt Bolt-Up System, with QD points machined into the rail near the receiver and a lower rail section that detaches without affecting the structure of the handguard. The lower receiver is the fully ambidextrous version, so the bolt catch, safety selector, and magazine release all mirror to the support side, and the GRIP-N-RIP charging handle is ambidextrous as well. An enhanced flared magwell and a rear receiver QD point round out the receiver set, and the rifle ships on a 6-position mil-spec 7075-T6 receiver extension with an H buffer.

Two things shape who this rifle is for. It is a registered short-barreled rifle, so it transfers as an NFA item through a dealer rather than over the counter as a normal long gun. And unlike the pinned-and-welded muzzle devices on Daniel Defense's 14.5-inch rifles, the flash suppressor here sits on exposed 1/2x28 threads, so a suppressor mount or a different muzzle device is a wrench job instead of gunsmithing.
