Folding 9mm carbine with 16.1-inch barrel that accepts Glock magazines and folds completely in half via rotating forend
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Kel-Tec SUB2000 Gen 3 is the cheapest serious folding 9mm carbine in production and the only one that folds completely in half via a rotating forend rather than a side-folding stock. Folded, the SUB2000 measures 15.5 inches end to end, fits inside a 16-inch backpack panel, and stores in the trunk well of a sedan without disassembly. The Gen 3 adds an aluminum receiver, M-LOK slots, a top Picatinny rail that survives folding without losing zero, and a redesigned trigger assembly with a lighter pull than the Gen 2.
Magazine compatibility is the SUB2000's other major argument. The 9mm variant accepts Glock 17 and Glock 19 magazines, including aftermarket extended sticks, with the magazine inserting into the grip the same way a pistol magazine does. This means shooters who already own Glock-pattern handguns share magazines across both platforms with no adapters required. Other configurations of the SUB2000 line accept S&W M&P, SIG P226, and Beretta 92 mags, but the Glock variant is the most popular and the easiest to feed.
The SUB2000 is not a precision platform. Iron sights are basic, the rotating forend introduces some flex compared to a fixed handguard, and the trigger reach is awkward for shooters with small hands. For under $500, those tradeoffs are reasonable. For backpack storage, vehicle trunk guns, or shooters who want a cheap 9mm carbine that pairs with their Glock pistol, the SUB2000 Gen 3 is the obvious choice.
