Ruger
5.7x28mm carbine with 16.25-inch threaded barrel sharing magazines with the Ruger-5.7 pistol
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Ruger LC Carbine is the only mainstream 5.7x28mm carbine in production and the cleanest answer to the question of what 5.7 looks like out of a 16.25-inch barrel. The cartridge gains roughly 400 fps over pistol-length barrels, pushing 40-grain bullets past 2,400 fps, which is closer to a small-caliber rifle round than a pistol round in terminal performance. Felt recoil at the shoulder is comparable to a 22 LR carbine, and the gas-delayed blowback system runs cleanly with both standard and aftermarket 5.7 loads.
Magazine sharing with the Ruger-5.7 pistol is the platform's single biggest argument. A pistol-and-carbine pair using the same 20-round magazines simplifies feeding, training, and storage in a way no 9mm pairing matches. The carbine ships with one 20-round magazine and accepts the same factory and aftermarket Ruger-5.7 mags. Capacity stops at 20 rounds standard, with no commonly available extended option, so shooters running competition stages may need multiple mags rather than a single high-capacity stick.
The LC Carbine is a deliberate niche buy, not a Glock-mag generalist. Ammunition is more expensive and less common than 9mm, and the cartridge's terminal performance is debated for home-defense use. For shooters who already own a Ruger-5.7 pistol, the carbine is the obvious pairing. For shooters who want a dedicated low-recoil long gun for new shooters, small-statured shooters, or accuracy work at 100 yards, the LC Carbine delivers in a way no 9mm PCC can match.
