Taurus
Best value .22 LR pistol, 22+1 / 16+1 capacity, optic-ready T.O.R.O. slide, threaded barrel, ~$320 street
0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Taurus TX22 rewrote the .22 LR pistol value equation when it launched. The current Gen2 / T.O.R.O. family keeps that role with 22+1 or 16+1 magazine options, an optic-ready slide, and threaded-barrel configurations that make it an easy suppressor or red-dot trainer. At roughly $320 street for common Gen2 T.O.R.O. bundles, it still undercuts most Ruger Mark IV tactical setups once optic mounting is included.
Reliability is the TX22's most surprising strength. Its magazine and chamber geometry feed consistently with many ammunition brands, including budget bulk packs from Federal and Remington that choke lesser .22 pistols. After a 200-round break-in period, failure rates drop sharply with quality ammunition.
The striker-fired trigger pulls at approximately 4 lbs, adequate for training but lacking the crispness of single-action designs like the Ruger Mark IV or Browning Buck Mark. The polymer sights are the most obvious cost-saving measure and should be upgraded.
