0-10 Scale Across 8 Axes
The Weatherby Vanguard is the value benchmark in a .300 Win Mag hunting rifle. It is built on the Howa 1500 action, the same two-lug push-feed design Howa manufactures in Japan, with a fully enclosed bolt sleeve and a one-piece machined bolt body. Weatherby backs every Vanguard with a written sub-MOA guarantee: a three-shot group of .99 inch or less at 100 yards from a cold barrel with Weatherby factory or premium ammunition. That is a guarantee most rifles twice this price do not put in writing.
Weatherby widened threaded-barrel availability across the Vanguard line in 2024, and the threaded .300 Win Mag configurations take a .30-caliber suppressor or brake without gunsmithing. The two-stage trigger adjusts down to about 2.5 pounds without aftermarket parts. In .300 Win Mag the rifle runs a 26-inch barrel, a 1:10 twist, an internal box magazine holding 3+1, and a 7.5-pound bare weight that soaks up magnum recoil better than an ultralight mountain rifle. The synthetic stock is utilitarian rather than refined, which is exactly the trade that keeps the price where it is.
