Best LPVO and AR-15 Scope Mounts 2026
The right LPVO mount sets your optic at the correct height, holds zero through recoil and abuse, and indexes the scope where your eye lands. This guide ranks the best 30mm scope mount and 34mm scope mount options for 2026, from duty-grade cantilevers to lightweight quick-detach mounts and budget picks. We cover mount height, cantilever offset, tube diameter, QD versus fixed, and what return to zero actually means so you buy the right cantilever scope mount the first time. For the optic itself, pair these picks with our best LPVO guide.

How to Choose an AR-15 Scope Mount
Pick the mount around four decisions: height, tube diameter, quick-detach versus fixed, and whether you need accessory wings for an offset dot. Get those right and any mount on this list will serve a flattop AR-15 for years. The four factors below are the ones that actually change which mount fits your build.
Height
1.54 to 1.70 inch is the standard AR-15 LPVO window for a natural cheek weld. Go to 1.93 inch for a heads-up position or a taller stock, and 2.05 inch (Unity FAST LPVO) only for night vision and armor work.
Tube Diameter
Match the mount to the scope tube. Most 1-6x and 1-8x scopes are 30mm; premium 1-8x and 1-10x scopes are often 34mm. A 30mm scope will not seat in 34mm rings, so confirm the tube spec before you buy.
QD vs Fixed
A quick-detach mount (Scalarworks LEAP/07, AD-RECON, Midwest MK2) lets you pull the optic and reseat it to zero. A fixed mount (Badger, Geissele) saves weight and removes a moving part. Choose QD only if you actually swap optics.
Accessory Mounting
Want an offset or piggyback red dot? The Badger Condition One, Reptilia AUS, and Unity FAST take modular wings and top rings for an MRDS. A plain cantilever like the Aero Ultralight does not, so plan the offset dot separately.
Mount Height Explained: 1.54, 1.70, 1.93, 2.05
For most AR-15 LPVO shooters, a 1.54 to 1.70 inch centerline is the right height. It gives a natural cheek weld on a standard carbine stock and matches the lower 1/3 height shooters already run for a red-dot co-witness, so head position stays consistent when you move between optics. That is why the Badger Condition One (1.54 / 1.70), Geissele Super Precision (1.54), and Reptilia AUS (1.54) all live in that band. Height is the centerline of the scope tube measured above the top of the rail, and it controls how high your head sits on the gun.
A 1.93 inch height (Scalarworks LEAP/07 in the tall option, Midwest MK2 High, AD-RECON-H) sits the optic noticeably higher for a more upright, heads-up shooting position and a faster transition between the optic and the target. It is popular on duty rifles where the shooter wears armor or a helmet. The 2.05 inch Unity FAST LPVO goes higher still, built specifically for passive aiming under night vision and shooting over a plate carrier; it is too tall for a low prone cheek weld. The rule is simple: go taller only if a heads-up position, armor, or NODs gives you a reason, because every added tenth of an inch lifts your head off the stock.

30mm vs 34mm: Matching the Mount to Your LPVO Tube
Buy the mount to fit your scope’s main tube diameter, not the other way around. Most 1-6x and 1-8x LPVOs use a 30mm tube, which is why budget mounts like the Aero Ultralight and Vortex Sport Cantilever are 30mm only. Many premium 1-8x and 1-10x scopes step up to a 34mm tube for more elevation travel and a larger erector, so a duty or precision build often needs 34mm rings.
A 30mm scope physically will not seat in 34mm rings, and shimming a smaller tube up to a larger ring is not an option. The Badger Condition One, Scalarworks LEAP/07, Geissele Super Precision, Reptilia AUS, Unity FAST, AD-RECON, and Midwest MK2 all ship in both 30mm and 34mm, so the diameter never forces you off your preferred mount. Confirm your scope’s tube spec, then order the matching ring size. For help picking the scope first, the optic selection matrix breaks down 1x to magnified options by use case.
QD vs Fixed Mounts and Return to Zero
A quick-detach mount lets you remove the optic and reseat it without losing zero, while a fixed mount trades that convenience for less weight and one fewer moving part. Return to zero is the spec that matters here: a good QD mount like the Scalarworks LEAP/07, American Defense AD-RECON, or Midwest MK2 reseats with reliable return to zero, so you can pull the scope to clean the rifle, pack it down, or swap to a red dot and trust your hold when it goes back on.
Choose QD only if you actually detach the optic. If the LPVO lives on the rifle, a fixed mount like the Badger Condition One or Geissele Super Precision is the stronger, lighter answer, and Geissele’s 1,400 lbs of clamping force per fastener is about as bombproof as a fixed mount gets. Either way, torque the rail fasteners and ring caps to the manufacturer’s spec; over- or under-torqued rings are the most common cause of a wandering zero. The optic mounting basics guide walks through the full torque sequence and lapping, and the optic zeroing guide covers dialing the scope in once the mount is locked down.
Adding an Offset or Piggyback Red Dot
Add a close-range red dot to an LPVO build either through the mount’s own accessory wings or a dedicated offset base. The Badger Condition One, Reptilia AUS, and Unity FAST all take modular hardware that bolts an MRDS to the mount body, keeping the dot tight to the bore. If your mount has no accessory points, the Arisaka Defense 45 Offset Mount clamps to the rail and reverses between a 35 and 45 degree offset with no extra parts, taking modular plates for RMR, Aimpoint Micro, and DeltaPoint Pro footprints.
A 45 degree offset is faster to roll into at close range; a 35 degree offset keeps the dot lower over the bore for a flatter hold. Either way, a piggyback dot turns a magnified LPVO into a true 0 to 300 yard rifle without re-shouldering. Configure the whole setup, mount and optic and offset dot, in our AR builder to see how the parts fit together before you buy.
