The Vector Optics Forester 1-5x24i is one of the least expensive routes into a true-1x variable that still has a daylight-usable aiming point. The reticle is a plain fiber-optic center dot rather than a BDC tree, and that simplicity is the point at 1x: there is nothing in the glass to slow down a close target, and the fiber collector keeps the dot visible in sun without relying on the six-level battery illumination.
The optical package is a second-focal-plane 1-5x24 on a 30mm tube with 4 inches of eye relief and a 96 ft field of view at 1x. Turrets lock, move in 1/5 MIL clicks, and offer at least 35 MIL of travel. A motion sensor puts the illumination to sleep after three minutes and wakes it on movement. A pair of 30mm Weaver rings comes in the box.
Know the limits before it goes on an AR-15. Parallax is fixed at 50 yards, which suits carbine distances and works against precision past a few hundred. The 5x top end is a notch below the 1-6x class norm, and the center-dot reticle gives no holdover subtensions, so drops have to be dialed on the MIL turrets. The included Weaver rings sit at a standard rifle height rather than an AR cantilever height, so most flat-top builds will want a taller one-piece mount instead. Vector rates the housing IPX4, and the Coyote FDE finish is the only option on this SKU.
